The community would like to create a space that promotes knowledge sharing and awareness for its members and visitors to the Nation’s territory. More than just a physical monument, they envision a place for healing and quiet reflection where prayer and ceremony can be held.
Supported by funding from the Indigenous Reconciliation Fund, the community will embark on designing and developing a permanent monument dedicated to Every Child Matters. The project includes not only the main monument and reflection area, but also a memorial space at the former day school site in the community. Additionally, the grant will enable the completion of an app aimed at revitalizing the Anishnaabemowin language, a crucial element of preserving and celebrating Anishinaabe culture.
Community engagement will play a key role in the design and naming process of these commemorative spaces. The project aims to foster community connection, contribute to the healing process, and instill cultural pride, aligning with broader reconciliation efforts.
