HEALING AND RECONCILIATION FOR COMMUNITIES AND FAMILIES

The Beat of Reconciliation

The drum is the heartbeat of the Earth. Muted but never silenced, the traditional rhythm of Indigenous drumming has withstood colonialism and systemic oppression to rise once again.

Indigenous song, dance and drums are returning to urban areas where they were once forbidden.

Ancestral lands are being reclaimed and turned into spaces for joy, bringing people of all backgrounds together for shared experiences grounded in truth, reconciliation and cultural celebration.

Thanks to the Nehiyawak Drumming, Dancing and Singing Healing Circle, these ancient rhythms can now be heard on summer evenings across Regina. Running from June 2025 to June 2026, this powerful initiative that brings Cree culture to the heart of the city will host seasonal events focused on building safe, welcoming spaces for all. More than a community event, this program is a reclamation of culture and a celebration of Indigenous identity.

The Indigenous Reconciliation Fund (IRF) is supporting the Nehiyawak Drumming, Dancing and Singing Healing Circle in its mission to educate, connect and inspire. While the event is free and open to all, the IRF’s support will help cover behind the scenes costs and honorariums to make these gatherings sustainable and accessible. Initiatives like these create opportunities for learning, storytelling and relationship-building. The Nehiyawak Drumming, Dancing and Singing Healing Circle is a testament to the strength of Cree identity to ensure the drum will never be silenced.
