HEALING AND RECONCILIATION FOR COMMUNITIES AND FAMILIES
Fostering Healing and Reconciliation at the Archdiocese of Ottawa-Cornwall

The Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Peoples Reconciliation Committee of the Archdiocese of Ottawa-Cornwall is dedicated to promoting healing and reconciliation within the diocesan community.
Their mission is to ensure that the voices of Indigenous people are heard and that everyone feels welcome to participate in community activities. The committee focuses on education and community building through various activities and encourages active participation in Indigenous events at both the parish and community levels, including initiatives like the Blanket Exercise at parishes and activities organized by the Kateri Native Ministry.
To further support their efforts, the committee plans to engage an Indigenous advisor, who will play an important role in networking throughout the Archdiocese, promoting Indigenous activities, and encouraging participation. They will ensure efficient flow of information, cultural appropriateness and most importantly, continue to raise awareness about healing and reconciliation.
This project provides a concrete way for the Archdiocese of Ottawa-Cornwall to act on the words of Pope Francis: “The Church is the house where we ‘conciliate’ anew, where we meet to start over and to grow together. It is the place where we stop thinking as individuals and acknowledge that we are brothers and sisters of one another.”
