HEALING AND RECONCILIATION FOR COMMUNITIES AND FAMILIES
Healing the Child Within program at St. Kateri Church
The Indigenous Catholic Community of Thunder Bay is dedicated to fostering a safe and inclusive space where individuals can embrace both Catholic and Indigenous Traditions.
To help facilitate healing from the trauma and memories associated with the Residential School system, St. Kateri Church, one of the community’s four churches, is hosting the “Healing the Child Within” program. The event is a gathering for Indigenous people, providing a platform for prayer and a safe space for Elders and Youth to connect. Participants share stories, engage in prayer for healing, and foster a stronger sense of community. The program is open to community members throughout the Thunder Bay area.
Funding from the Indigenous Reconciliation Fund (IRF) covers essential program expenses such as speaker honorarium and accommodation, Elders’ gifts, music ministry, and hall rental for three days of programming.
Services at Kitchitwa Kateri are inclusive, welcoming Indigenous and non-Indigenous Catholic individuals in and around Thunder Bay. The community values diversity, ensuring that everyone feels welcome and can actively participate in the services.
