HEALING AND RECONCILIATION FOR COMMUNITIES AND FAMILIES
People Bridge Advocacy
Many newcomers who arrive in Canada seeking refuge, opportunity and a better life are unaware of the history and ongoing journey of reconciliation with Indigenous peoples in this country.
The People Bridge Advocacy (PBA) in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan has been addressing this gap by providing on-going Truth and Reconciliation education and activities for immigrants and refugees.
Now in the second year of this program and led by an advisory team of Elders and Knowledge Keepers, PBA hosts workshops and training sessions on Indigenous traditions, histories, and cultural teachings. Facilitated by educators, survivors, and community leaders, the program bridges understanding between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, fostering dialogue and learning for newcomers to Canada.
Thanks to a grant from the Indigenous Reconciliation Fund (IRF), PBA will be able to cover annual expenses for cultural costs such as Elder honoraria and tobacco offerings, as well as supplies for projects, workshops, and events. Additionally, the grant supports learning opportunities for staff, board members, and volunteers.
Through its initiatives, PBA brings together diverse communities to listen, learn, and engage in open dialogue. By honoring the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and collaborating on the Calls to Action, PBA builds bridges of understanding and solidarity, fostering a more inclusive and reconciled Canada.
