St. Kateri Student Bursary Continues to Empower Indigenous Education

In Thunder Bay, Ontario, the St. Kateri Student Bursary program has been supporting Indigenous students pursuing higher education.
Funded by the Indigenous Reconciliation Fund (IRF), the bursary looks to empower Northern Indigenous youth by alleviating financial barriers to education and promoting cultural pride. The response from students, teachers, and guidance counselors has been overwhelmingly positive, underscoring the importance of accessible education in Indigenous communities.
Thanks to the IRF, the St. Kateri Student Bursary will now be expanded to Pelican Falls Indigenous High School in Sioux Lookout, providing financial assistance for essential needs like books, bus tickets, and living expenses. To be eligible for the bursary, students must be planning to pursue ongoing studies at a college, university, or trades school, as well as demonstrate a commitment to Indigenous culture and serve as a role model for youth in their community.
By prioritizing Indigenous students who actively engage with and promote their cultural heritage, the St. Kateri Student Bursary embodies the spirit of reconciliation and empowerment. It serves as a testament to the commitment of Thunder Bay’s educational community to address systemic barriers and promote equity in education.
